First sight of the cliff walls at the 1600 year old UNESCO site of the Bingling Temples. We were approaching by boat….the main access, after a 2 hour journey along the Yellow River. It is quite a remote site and not yet over touristed. From around 350 CE onwards there were over 1000 grottoes and temples cut out from the stone cliff faces, each a Buddhist temple with frescoes and statues. The location is simply breathtaking and the temples are astonishing. The structures are some of the temples built 1600 years ago, into the cliff face.
