HFF

This is high up by cable car at 3,300 meters above sea level above Heaven Lake in Xinjiang, China. It was -10°C . The fences are heavily hung with red good luck charms bearing lovers’ names. Not unlike the custom in Europe of padlocks on bridges. These tinkle in the breeze….when not weighed down by so much snow. We were here in summer 26 years ago. No chairlift, and the lake had Kyrgyz herders’ yurts around it with their livestock in summer pastures. Now it has glass bridges, dozens of restaurants, and in season, thousands of local tourists per day. We chose the early spring, bitterly cold season to avoid just that. The day before in Urumqi had been -17° with heavy snow.

Very best wishes for a happy Easter and family time to all. Love …Diana

It seems they beat us to the padlock trend in Europe. I hung some in different cities and with different girlfriends, but I didn't hang one with my current wife's name, and we're still together. Did you hang up your red amulet?

Diana Australis replied to Anton Cruz Carro:

Because it was low season no kiosks were open selling them…I would have if I could get hold of one!
