"Dunbar" memorial

The Dunbar was a timber three-masted ship. The following from the sign (also PiP) "The Dunbar was wrecked about 500 yards south of this spot in a heavy North East gale at night August 20th 1857. From a total of 122, there was only one survivor. This her anchor was recovered by local residents 50 years later, and is now set up in memory of the tragic event".

This site is at the top of the ocean cliffs on South Head of the harbour entrance. Maybe not a very Happy Wednesday Wall.

A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice composition, and interesting (if rather sad) story.
Great rusty colours too
Best Wishes, HWW, a nice half week ahead, and stay safe!!

Very interesting to see the ship was called Dunbar, as this is the name of a town in Scotland. The town is the birthplace of John Muir the famous adventurer after whom the long-distance trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California was named. All the best, Joe

tiabunna replied to Joe, Son of the Rock:

Thank you, Joe. From Wikipedia, it seems the ship may have been named after its owner, Duncan Dunbar who was. " a Scottish businessman and London-based shipowner who established what was described as the largest shipping line in Great Britain."
