the cupola with weathervane was added in 1700 to the late norman tower, along with the battlements; the clock bell mechanism visible on the left. the bell itself dates from 1546, made by stephen tonne, and is inscribed with"surge mane servire deo" (trans. get up in the morning to serve god)
