carshalton water tower, surrey
up on the roof of the water tower , which has a water wheel, orangery and plunge bath below; this brick building of c.1719 was by henry joynes, vanbrugh's comptroller of works at blenheim, hence its style, with distinct similarities to vanbrugh's in its plaster vaulting and crenellations, its mixture of classicism with a "castle air ".
