built 1849 by john tarring for an independent congregation of calvinists that had been here since 1669, now rebuilt after war damage and used by a united reformed church and a group under the name of praxis, doing work with immigrants. there was originally a school downstairs, and before wartime damage the upper windows were somewhat less industrial, without these square heads. the tower was designed for a spire and pinnacles, and would benefit from some replacement. instead of stone , perhaps some filigree affair spiralling upwards like a flame. . . .
