swaffham prior churches, cambridgeshire

odd niche up in the s.e. corner of st.mary's chancel; was it a reinstatement of an original feature, or did blomfield design it specifically to take colonel allix' waterloo sword, which hung hereabouts as the s.w. chancel window was dedicated to him, that above to mary allix. both windows came with the sword from the other church.
