our lady and the english martyrs, cambridge
view east down nave of this enormous church. built by dunn and hansom between 1887-90, a truly awesome building. perhaps built with the aim of creaming off rich and influential high church undergraduates, for whom the cambridge movement didn't go far enough.. some details don't stand up to scrutiny - look at those marble additions to the main arcade - but the total effect in the religious gloom is of splendour.
