the tower is a wonderful amalgamation of different materials, c18 and c19 brick, c14 knapped and uncut flints including chequerwork and ragstone, pebbles, and lots of puddingstones, seen as somehow magical in early mediaeval times, and often a sign of early work, or indicating the demolition and reuse of an earlier building
