My World Photography Day submission for 2026. I was trying to compose a shot to include the yellow fire hydrant, yellow curb, yellow caution sign in the street, and yellow trim on the Smeede Hotel when suddenly a man in a yellow shirt appeared. What luck!
I began World Photography Day by watching a video by a photographer I admire,
Nick Carver. Carver is California a commercial architectural photographer and has also described himself as both a landscape photographer and
a street photographer that sucks at street photography.” On the street, he uses the tools of landscape photography to capture, not a decisive moment, but the environment in which those moments occur. He shoots large and medium format film and works slowly and meticulously. I tend do to the opposite: small format digital, fast, and a bit sloppy, but I still enjoy and learn a lot from hearing Nick explain his choice of location, film, composition and lighting.

... ist das Motiv schon wieder Geschichte.
