Guinness Advert

Glasgow

Based on the classic John Gilroy Guinness campaign (1930s–1960s), famous for its animals and playful slogans. Gilroy’s work included the toucan, the zoo keeper, the ostrich, and the “My Goodness, My Guinness” series. The two murals in Sauchiehall Lane use this visual language, which is why they’re instantly recognisable.

Guinness has always had some excellent adverts, and this is no exception. Some time In the 50s, I stayed with a cousin in Southsee, and the Guinness clock was absolutely fascinating with all the moving parts, incliusing the toucans of course.
