Farleigh Hungerford Castle Grounds with PiPs

With PiPs of the interior ~ A figure of St George slaying the dragon dominates the chapel's east wall. It dates from the 1440s. It was almost certainly commissioned by Walter, first Lord Hungerford. The painting of St George was rediscovered in 1844, along with a smaller figure of a kneeling knight wearing the Hungerford arms. But early efforts at conserving them probably did more harm than good.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Pam J:

It's not that Hungerford Pam. It is Farleigh Hungerford, a village near Bradford-on-Avon in Somerset. Easily confused :-)

Les Pips sont d'une beauté fascinante et remarquable surtout avec ces belles peintures.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Günter Klaus:

Thank you very much dear Günter. The interior of the church felt extremely old and the wall paintings were not expected, so a rare treat.

Best wishes and a good evening, Rosa.

What a beautiful looking church...........and quintessentially English! I like the tall pointed frontage and the cross at either end.......and the arched entrance in the wall, also with a cross. The detail you've captured in the stonework is lovely.

I like the interior shots as well.........especially the painting of St George..........which is in remarkable condition for its age.

Superb photography Rosa...........enjoy the rest of your day. Only a few drops of rain here so far, but a dark and dreary day (especially as I had to go food shopping earlier) :-(
