Diversion

The turning was made
Efficiently and precisely,
The gridlock visible
From the road.
When passing by
Houses and houses
That had seen
Better days,
In the vacant seat
Next to me
A benevolent spirit
Gazed forwards.

I lost count of all
The bridges
I passed under
Before I caught
A glimpse of you
Through the window
In the shimmering
Water
At the end of the world.

I arrived at
The destination
But could not find
A way to cross over,
So I spent a few
Hours in your
Presence,
On the deserted
Beach,
Before heading back
To the place
I was unsure
Was home.

A bit of a bleak landscape, but it has a strange beauty all of its own. I love the dramatic sky!
