Song of the Sea - Compass

by Rachel J Bowler
In this town,
I lose my way more than once.
Until there is nothing
To lose.
I walk.
I shelter.
With others who do not speak
And I do not speak to.
Steel cuts through the sky.
I breathe in the storms
Now frequent
In inevitability.
I find the pier by accident
In fire charred
Ashes of innocence.
Consumed by the shrieks
Of its fairground past.
I try to climb higher,
To get a better view,
Hoping that sublimity
Will transfigure,
But the stench of
The gaslight overwhelms.
The sea cannot
Heal its wounds.

Superb light on the Weston-super-Mare pier. I love piers, but we have not visited this one.

Rachel J Bowler replied to Amelia:

It's the ruins of Birnbeck Pier, which has been closed since 1994.

A dramatic sky, gorgeous light (especially on the wet sand), and the silhouetted pier are all beautiful. A wonderful capture Rachel.
