Brighton chimneys from the London Road viaduct 24 1 2024

Photographed through a train window towards the Sun, this scene has reflections and glare. It is a crop of a wider view. I wanted to highlight the array of chimney pots disappearing into the distance.

A striking capture despite the difficult circumstances,

Phil Sutters replied to John FitzGerald:

I seem to remember that, at this point, the train was slowly moving forward, having been stopped at a signal, awaiting a platform becoming vacant. So it wasn't as tricky as it might have been.

I love photos through windows without the frame of the window showing. It's a 'natural' filter that is very appealing to me.

Great image - an interesting perspective that one doesn't easily see.

Phil Sutters replied to raingirl:

When we lived in south London, many of the railway lines ran on viaducts and it was always fascinating what people had done at the backs of their properties - views you don't see from the road side of the houses. Some had built smart extensions. Some were scruffy. Travelling at night some had their curtains (drapes) drawn tight. Others didn't seem to care that you could see right into their homes.

We had a tram installed in our city that goes right over the top of many houses - the neighborhood complained that they were loosing their privacy, but to no avail - but they shouldn't have bothered, the tram is so high up one can't see anything except a great horizon view. Maybe if I took a long lens with me - haha.
