Concrete Barges

Around 200 of these concrete barges were built in preparation for D-Day in 1944, but were in the end, never used. 16 were towed to Rainham Marshes on the Eastern fringe of London in 1953 and abandoned here to shore up sea defences damaged during the Great North Sea flood that year
