1956 Jaguar XKSS Drophead Coupe

713

The stylish and imposing XKSS was a road-going version of Jaguar’s very successful D-Type race car. Originally white with a red interior, this example was purchased by actor and performance-car aficionado Steve McQueen from its second owner. After acquiring the rare Jaguar, McQueen had it repainted a favorite shade of green, polished the Dunlop wheels, and had the interior re-trimmed in black by renowned hot rod upholsterer Tony Nancy. A capable mechanic, McQueen did much of the maintenance work himself.

McQueen enjoyed driving his XKSS fast and is reported to have recieved so many tickets that his driver’s license was almost suspended twice during his first year of ownership.
