Still Life with Yarn

I found this ball of yarn in the oddments bin of a local craft shop. It's labelled as Basket Lace Shawl Yarn. I like how intricate it is and the colours. I have no idea how it would be used to make a shawl, but I think it makes a great photo.

Perhaps it's just for decorative bows on gifts. Otherwise, ask your wife.
But I'm quite surprised that you want to take on this project. I admit I underestimated your knitting and crocheting skills. :)

Thank you aNNa..........but I have no intention of doing anything with it, except take this photo!

Gudrun (below) has explained how it would be used to make a shawl, but that is way beyond my skill set :-)))

A great find and a great shot I really like the background and the composition, I like how you have unravelled some of the yarn to add foreground interest, all in all a cracking shot that looks even better viewed large

Beautiful details, the background is well chosen as always. I love the pastel colour palette!

For this sort of (trellis) yarn you use large size knitting or crocheting needles which would make for a lightweight shawl with lots of little holes.

Thanks also for the information about what it would be used for and how to do it.............I have no intention of trying it, but it's always nice to know!

I'm going to hang on to it for a while, just in case I think of another way to photograph it :-))

A lovely background colour to compliment the yarn Keith, if you want to know how to use it Google Basket lace shawl there is a YouTube video that explains it, thinking about it back in the day when crimplene was all the range an imitation basket weave was produced on circular knitting machines

An extraordinary ball of yarn with a very charming pattern. Elegantly draped to highlight the fabric’s lightness. Perfectly showcased against a tonal background. The details are captured with striking sharpness. A very successful still life.
