Shelter and Streetlamp

These are situated on the sea front at Southsea, Hampshire. They date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and have been Grade II listed for their artistic, architectural and historical interest.

They have recently been restored. See the link for more details if you are interested:

Keith Burton replied to J.Garcia:

It probably could have been in earlier times Judite.........only the rich could afford trips to the sea side in those days.

Glad you like the shelter and thanks for your visit and nice comments.

I knew this was one of yours before I even saw your name ...

Wonderful shot - did you have to wait long for people to move into the distance? Love the shadows.

Keith Burton replied to MaggsMep:

I'm very pleased you like this one Maggie..........it was sad to see them taken down and it's good to have them back in such good condition.

I did have to wait a while, but not too long. It was pretty cold that day, despite the sunshine, so not so many people around.

Thanks for dropping in and leaving such nice comments.

Excellent and fine sea-scene.
It seems to be somehow british: a shelter on a beach walk ;)

Keith Burton replied to Jean-Paul:

Thank you so much Jean-Paul...........glad you like this one.

In Victorian times, it was very fashionable for people to promenade on the sea front..........and of course they needed somewhere to sit and rest!!
