Somewhere in Time (in honor of D-Day)

Long ago, my mom (who was in nurses training at the time) was engaged to this man named Lynn who was a paratrooper. Sadly he was killed in the war before they could be married. My mom went on to marry my dad years later and they had a big family. I remember her telling us the story of Lynn and what had happened. I always wondered what her life would have been like if he would have lived. I like to think that maybe they could meet again somewhere in time.

Below is what is written on the back of his photo.

Thank you for sharing this lovely photo, Karen. There is such a look of hope in Lynn's eyes. A very sad end to a young life.

From my family I know another dramatic story. My uncle, my mother's brother, was a tall and fair haired young man. At the end of WWII he was 17 years old and was about to be conscripted to the SS. A friend of my grandfather tried to save him and commandeered him for the Flak near Hameln. In April 1945 he was killed by strafing P39 while he was defending a bridge over the Weser. My mother still had a photo of his fiancée a pretty girl.

That's so sad. There are so many sad stories from the wars. We can only honor them and what they did to try and help the situation.

It is a very sad and touching story, Karen. There must be many similar stories that have never been told.
