LBJ

I'm a Luddite, though I grudgingly use lots of technology.

This bird, sitting in our now-past-blooming Lilac tree today, looked to me like a White-throated sparrow. And I had seen an unambiguously yellow-lored one a couple of minutes before. See one, see two. . . makes sense, wa?

But I had my telephone and the Merlin, situated on that phone, said it heard a Swamp sparrow.

So I sent the picture through Google's AI. It said that it was certain this was a Song sparrow.

And that led me to ask my flesh-and-bloodite friends about it. One has answered. He has been a serious birder all his now-long life; he thinks it could be any of them, but perhaps I should consider the Chipping sparrow instead.

I had another life-long-birder friend, sadly now dead, who used to regularly use the term LBJ, little brown jobs, for birds even he, an expert for decades, could not identify.

Thus, this: now an LBJ.
