Everybody's got to eat. Including the top feeders like Sharp-shinned hawks.

I took a few pictures, getting as close as the gallery rail would allow. I eventually made a noise, I thought like a crow crackling, and the hawk jumped a little as if he hadn't until now noticed me taking his picture. He went a couple of feet from this holly (where no doubt there were littler birds hiding out) into the apple above, and then, having thought it over, gave it up for a lost breakfast.

He was last seen flying towards another feeder in the neighbourhood.
