This was the view from the supermarket parking-lot this dull morning of the former monastery on Merrymeeting Road.

Historians of St. John 's call this area part of the "Ecclesiastical Precinct" of St John's but locals usually have called it the Higher Levels. (People born since about 1970 call it downtown, which it ain't. But I was drinking in bars and voting in elections in the 1970s.)

The building's insides have been stripped to the bricks and boards and the present owners are selling it for two and a quarter million dollars.
