Twenty-five years ago, my wife and I had never seen an Evening grosbeak before.

On Christmas Day that year dozens of them showed up outside our window, eating at our bird feeder. We didn't know what they were, so we called them our Christmas parrots.

Just before this year's Christmas, they are back.
