Grace Sparkes was a remarkable woman -- a teacher, poet, playwright, politician, activist, actor, mother and plenty of other things.

She died twenty-odd years ago at 95 or so. And when it was announced soon afterwards that a new local ferry would be named after her, I don't think there was any opposition.

Now, twenty years later, the ferry is up in dry dock (in St John's Harbour) being refitted. This was this afternoon.
