Although we live more or less downtown, we live pretty close to the very edge of Town, with the forested area to the SE of the city only about 500 metres away. We see lots of bluejays in our yard, but we've never seen a grey jay there.

Today we were up in that forested area, maybe four km from our back door, and who should flit through the trees but this grey jay, landing two or three metres from us.

He landed in deep shade with bright sunlight behind him and I was too slow to adjust the exposure. And then he took off again. So he was nearly black in my one picture.
