In a way, it's places like Tianyi Square that show how much China's progressed, because it looks so modern, new and shiny,

That said, I think the architecture looks very samey now. A lot of the buildings they knocked down look more interesting, though I suspect they were cruddy.

Tianyi Square actually won prizes for its architecture after it was opened.
