Epidendrum magnoliae (Green-fly orhchid)
Well, the small epiphytic orchid plant that I rescued last summer is finally blooming in my front yard. I'm really excited that I was able to pull it through our relatively cold winter, several hundred miles north of its preferred growing location near Charleston, South Carolina. The less than one-inch (2.5 cm) flowers seem to sparkle in the sunshine. And, they produce a delightfully sweet, floral aroma but only at night. This specimen should provide additional photographic opportunity as more buds open in the coming week.
