The Britiah make the best signs. The shopfronts of their corner stores are pretty good, too. The Canadian equivalent would have a sign in some plain sans-serif font and no colourful sidewalk advertising, just a window full of signs advertising lotteries and Coca-Cola.

Some of them even have statues outside!
