At Spanish Stations when they want to say the equivalent of 'Mind the gap' it goes something like this over the tannoy (in my English translation); 'The train is about to approach the station. The station is on a curve. On descending the train, take care not to place your foot between the train and the platform'. I just want to scream out, 'MIND THE GAP!'

You're right. By the time those lengthy directions have registered on the consciousness, it will be too late. I get similarly annoyed by yellow danger signs with pictures. It takes my brain longer to work out what the pictures mean than the simple word 'DANGER' in red.
