Southall Water Tower (AKA Southall's Castle).

Now converted into flats.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

Very nice too. That's the type of high rise that I like.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

Good. I'm having my second vaccination on Saturday week. Where? - In Southall, 300 yards from there.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

I went past it yesterday (en route to Taplow). It's uncomfortably close to the railway - the windows must rattle when the Intercitys scream past at 125mph - but the interiors must be a lot more interesting than yer usual. And it's conveniently close to the vaccination centre, so on balance perhaps it's a good place to live.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

Surely there must be better things to do in Southall?

Climb to the top of the gasworks and see if you can see Guildford.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

A good idea at one time, but there isn't much of a view from them now that they've been demolished.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

Sit in the park then and contemplate your navel. Anything's got to be better than submitting to an untried government injection.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

I'm used to having needles stuck in me. On Tuesday I had a blood test, and the nurse had to try several places on my arm and hand until a sufficient blood flow was obtained. But I forbore to ask her if the first needles were inserted in vain.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

It's not the needle you need have the needle about, but the needlessness of it all.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

They tell you that you'll feel a sharp scratch. In our day they told us that we'd "feel a prick". Because this raised certain peoples' blood pressure, they had to rephrase it.

Today, 9th April, is my 10th wedding anniversary. But alas the chapel in King's College London (I've just determined) where today I'd hoped to go back to commemorate it, thanks to the pandemic, isn't currently open to the public.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

1. In my day it was "just a little prick", but the reward was a barley sugar.

2. That is very sad, and (in my opinion) wrong. The house of God should not be closed.
