After a while, the enduring concerns about technological unemployment will recede as societies emphasise the need to restructure the workplace in a way that minimises close human contact. Indeed, automation technologies are particularly well suited to a world in which human beings can't get too close to each other or are willing to reduce their interactions. Our lingering and possibly lasting fear of being infected with a virus will thus speed the relentless march of automation, particularly in the fields most susceptible to automation.
