Lovely lighting and sky, but someone I know doesn't like compositions where the eye is led in two directions at once.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

This was a serendipity bus window shot: ergo, not composed.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

Every picture we take is composed. We do it autonomically. As well, because if we had to stop and think about composition each time, most subjects would "get away" long before we take them. In the same way, where there's a potential picture, it's our unconscious minds which alert us to it. Like musical and other skills, this "eye for a picture" is partly innate and partly developed. With some camera enthusiasts I've known, however, it's been neither, even after years of picture-taking. But even when autonomic, for perfect composition, I agree that a minimum amount of time and spacial freedom is needed.

Isisbridge replied to Howard Somerville:

Your theories may be true to some extent, but don't take into account the external influences of a prearranged bus route and unexpected joggles by the bus, as well as the state of alertness of the photographer. My bus window shots are very dependent on whether I'm awake or not.

Other factors would be the length of time since the previous shot, and the slight shutter delay.

Howard Somerville replied to Isisbridge:

Yes, they're not the easiest to take, and those epic overnight journeys must be tiring in the extreme. Is EH still alive, as far as you know?

As far as I know.
