According to the architect, this is supposed to be a "joyful surprise".
Well, it was certainly a surprise, as I stumbled on it by accident whilst looking for a bus stop. But it wasn't a joyful. I came away feeling very depressed about the destruction of our once-beautiful city.
This is simply block colour, emphasising unbeautiful forms and creating visual clutter.
I experienced more joy from seeing the red phone box across the road.
