O fim de semana na Avenida Paulista

On weekends, Avenida Paulista also becomes a stage for protests and activism, especially around human rights, the environment, and animal welfare. On Sundays, when the avenue is closed to cars, demonstrators share the space with families and cyclists, holding banners, distributing leaflets, and sometimes organizing disruptive performance‑style actions. Vegetarian and vegan groups frequently denounce animal cruelty in industrial farming, using graphic images, silent “cube” protests with screens, or theatrical die‑ins to draw attention. You may find stands offering plant‑based food samples, petitions calling for stronger animal‑protection laws, or campaigns against fur, rodeos, and live‑animal transport.

While I agree with the protester's stance against industrialized animal farming other farming is just as problematic, especially soy bean production.

It has been surprising to see such a large animal rights group in the centre of São Paulo, especially after a visit to a traditional Brazilian steakhouse the other night where some diners were eating close to 2 kg of meat, and in a city where most restaurants still offer very few vegetarian options.
