Copenhagen today / Rådhuspladsen

In June 2025, Copenhagen City Hall Square became the stage for a striking public installation: a rhino statue poised atop a towering stack of wooden blocks, reminiscent of a giant Jenga game. This was the centerpiece of the Copenhagen Zoo’s “Nature’s Balance” campaign. The rhino, a powerful symbol of endangered wildlife, and the unstable wooden tower, where each block represented a different species, together delivered a compelling message about biodiversity and ecological fragility.

Designed to provoke thought and inspire action, the installation invites passersby to reflect on how the loss of any species threatens the delicate balance of nature. The campaign’s experiential approach using public art to communicate urgent environmental issues epitomises Copenhagen’s tradition of blending activism and creativity. While the rhino and its tower are temporary, the message endures: in the intricate web of life, every block, and every species, matters.
