Loco and Tender Reunited 1086 0866

Loco and tender are connected and can now be moved together. The plan is to store loco 1086 on a track near the platform so it can be viewed by visitors until work commences. The first task will be to evaluate the boiler. See the PiPs for the coupling hardware. July 2025.

Hi Graham
A wonderful and interesting set of picture, which I like very much!
Very nice start to the project.
I do wonder though if it is maybe better to build a brand new locomotive to the same design, then just incorporate one or two 'cosmetic' parts from the original, and call it a 'rebuild'.
Best Wishes, Happy Monday, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!

"It's still grandpa's old axe even though it has had 3 new handles and and a replacement blade."
The DownsSteam workshop does many amazing things but casting new frames or wheels is probably a little beyond us...

Assuming the boiler is ok we still have to find/manufacture/get manufactured new piston rods and maybe pistons. These parts disappeared when it was plinthed in the post-steam era.

Just caught up with your shots of 1086. You've got your work cut out on this one. Although given enough enthusiasm, volunteer help and lots of money I'm sure it will get done!

GrahamH replied to Loose_Grip/Pete:

Thanks Pete. The condition of the boiler has first to be determined to decide what will be done. There are no known spare boilers, though there is one plinthed somewhere of unknown condition at somewhere that I can't recall at the moment. This one was plinthed for a couple of decades before the now defunct group at Mackay acquired it.
