from Tuncurry to Forster

Twin towns FORSTER TUNCURRY, New South Wales, Australia
The bridge featured here, which spans Cape Hawke Harbour, or the Wallamba River, was officially opened on July 18, 1959.

It is 631 metres long, 13.5 metres wide, and the bridge arch sits 6 metres above the water.

Before the bridge was built a ferry operated between Forster and Tuncurry for close to 70 years.

Gillian Everett replied to Stephan Fey:

Thanks Stephan. It is very long, and can be a bottleneck. Another bridge will need to be built sometime soon, as the population increases.

The same has been done between Algarve and Andalucia, but the ferry still running and lots of people, including me, loves to cross on her.

Gillian Everett replied to Xata:

I love ferries too. This crossing is quite shallow and now supports a large volume of traffic.

Highly interesting photos of this bridge, it must have been a relief for the inhabitants!

Gillian Everett replied to Gudrun:

Thanks Gudrun. Yes, and it still is, although we await developments, to improve traffic flow.
We don't go to Forster that much but it would be a very long way round without the bridge.
