The interior of the Basilica of Santa Sabina on the Colle Aventino in Rome
The Basilica of Santa Sabina, on the Colle Aventino, is among the oldest and best preserved of the early Christian period in Rome. It an example of expression of early Christian church with a longitudinal plan, heir of the majestic Classrooms, Palatine classrooms or gods, while maintaining essential forms, without infarcimenti glitzy. Built on a Roman domus, existing prior to the fifth century; Of this pre-existence we have the testimonies in some furnishings that were incorporated in the church, like a column of granite, in the wall of the right aisle and a similar one at the Chapel of S.Giacinto; pavements remains visible beneath the grate floor next to the wooden door of the entrance porch show us, in addition, precious marbles arranged in geometric figures, indicating a fairly high social level of that ancient domus owners.
