"Xerus" , Namibian Squirrel
The term "Xerus" in Namibia refers to the Cape ground squirrel (Xerus~inauris) and the Damara ground squirrel (Xerus~princeps), both of which are terrestrial, diurnal (active during the day) rodents. The Cape ground squirrel is widespread in Southern Africa's dry areas, including Namibia, and is easily recognized by its long, bushy tail that it can fan out to use as a sunshade. Damara ground squirrels are also found in the region. ....
