Neige en mai! Snow in may! [EXPLORER]

This ‘snow’, also known as ‘pollen’ or ‘cotton’, is nothing of the sort. It is the stuffing of the poplar. It's actually a downy substance made up of long silky hairs to which the plant's seeds are attached. In scientific terms, it's called a feathery achene.
