The Asian lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis, also known as the "multicolored" or "harlequin lady beetle")[1] is a beetle belonging to the lady beetle family (Coccinellidae).
Originally from Asia, this species was introduced to the USA and then Europe at the end of the 20th century for biological pest control. The beetle now occurs in large numbers in the wild in many areas, and there are concerns that it is displacing native lady beetle species and other insect species. In autumn, it can become a nuisance to humans, as it forms swarms that seek out houses and other sheltered places to overwinter.
