Old City Hall, Toronto

Seen from Nathan Phillips Square. Old City hall opened in 1899; its architest was E. J. Lennox. It remained City Hall till 1965. The City planned to tear it down but an enraged citizenry stopped them. It is now a courthouse.

I'm glad they didn't tear it down! It's an attractive example of whatever period of architecture it represents, and re-purposing it makes more sense.

John FitzGerald replied to rdhinmn:

It's Richardsonian Romanesque, Bob, and it was inspired in part by Minneapolis City Hall. Unfortunately, the opulent interior was gutted.

I chose a more general view then -> www.ipernity.com/doc/2251804/50708982 , but the seagulls were already there.
A good detail of this crossed out neo-romanesque façade. ;-)

John FitzGerald replied to Leon_Vienna:

I don't think I have any mid-range views like yours, Leon, so thanks for the link. Mine are either long views or close up. This style is called Richardsonian Romanesque in Canada and the States, after the Boston architect H. H. Richardson.
