John FitzGerald replied to rdhinmn:

Thank you very much, Bob. Back to basics. I think I was encouraged by this photo of Keith Burton's, although I think his is a better example of the theme:

rdhinmn replied to John FitzGerald:

I see what you mean, though it takes a great leap of imagination to move here from there. Yes, the colors are a reflection, but the ambiance is quite different, to my eye, that is.

This exchange reminds me of a Charlie Brown cartoon where Lucy looks down and says she has found a butterfly, and that it came all the way from South America. Charlie Brown tells her, "That isn't a butterfly! It's a potato chip." She continues to look down, and replies, "A potato chip? How did that get here all the way from South America?"

It probably was brought by Thor Heyerdahl on one of his many expeditions.

You're welcome, raingirl. You had an interesting idea for a group there, and it's really worked out well.

John FitzGerald replied to Ulrich John:

Taking up photography revealed to me how much space pop art had been taking up in my unconscious, Ulrich. Distinct influence by both Warhol and Ed Ruscha.

Chicks with thick cutting of crackle were common to all countries.

In my country "Avenomics (shrinkfration)" was reduced by 25% at the same price and it became less tasty.

John FitzGerald replied to kiiti:

A common practice here, too, kiiti.

I confuse my students with British English 'chips' and 'crisps' and the American English equivalents 'french fries' and 'chips', respectively. In Spain there is just one term for both; 'patatas fritas', and they are really surprised that I find that hard to understand when they are so different!
