It's the Pits!

Christie Pits, Toronto. Toronto Maple Leafs at home in the Intercounty Baseball League, a sandlot league in Central and Southwestern Ontario. Since 2009, when this game was played, I have lost my notes about who the opponent was. The Leafs are in the field here, and I still remember that they won.

In 1909 the city converted an old sandpit at the corner of Bloor and Christie and called it Willowvale Park. Everybody else called it Christie Pits, though, and in 1983 the city finally gave in and renamed it Christie Pits Park.

Very summery shot, innocent and homey.

That's a pretty good description, Bob. People relaxing, lots of drop-ins who come for a few innings and leave, everybody enjoying the nice summer evening. I usually drop in -- I stop by while I'm out for a walk. Get a pop at the store across the street and watch from the top of the hill, usually from around this position.

A timeless image John.................I'm willing to bet it looks pretty much the same nowadays.

John FitzGerald replied to Keith Burton:

You're right, Keith. It is pretty much the same now. Back in the 1970s they had a skin (i. e., dirt) infield, but they planted grass a long time ago. It probably played truer than this one, though.
