krishna sanskrit pop mania
Cut-paper collage with acrylic paint.
Going for the Indian pop aesthetic of "more is more," I built this collage in layers:
—Indian woodblock print background
—straight lines in red paint
—4 images (2 on each side) from Hindu mythology
—central figure of Krishna manifesting his multipart divinity in the Bhagavad Gita
—12 little photos of Indian aluminum clothespins
On top I painted a verse, 3 Sanskrit words, from the Upanishads—pronounced "tah-rah-tee" (purple), "show-kahm" (orange), & "aaht-mah-veet" (turquoise). My rough translation: "When you know yourself deeply, you overcome suffering."
