Chiesa di Santa Rita Delle Vergini "was built in 1615 under the title of St. Mary of the Virgin on the site of a former church of the same name and in the care of the Augustinian nuns of the nearby College of Our Lady of Refuge; then it was immediately rebuilt ( 1634 - 1,636th ) as too small for the needs of the college; in 1660 it was finally completed the convent of the nuns, under the direction of Domenico Castelli . The church, with its monastery, the Augustinian remained until 1870 , when it was confiscated by the Italian government, together with the convent, and desecrated.

In 1904 , when the Church of St. Rita of Cascia in Campitelli , at the foot of the Capitol , was dismantled for the construction of the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II , the temple was reopened to the public to host the Brotherhood of the Holy Thorn of the Crown of Our Lord Jesus Christ and St. Rita of Cascia in what was his old seat; so the church was consecrated and dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia ."
