Andean Lapwing / Andenkiebitz oder Southern Lapwing / Bronzekiebitz? (PiP)

Gesehen am Salto del Laja bei Los Angeles in Südchile.

Aus mir wird kein Ornithologe mehr, deshalb brauchte ich den Hinweis von Gavin (siehe unten) und auch von Karin.

Wenn es wirklich ein Andenkiebitz ist, so hat er sich überraschend weit nach Süden ausgebreitet und auch das Flachland erobert.

Von der Verbreitung her würde der Bronzekiebitz besser passen, aber scheint mir etwas zu groß und die charakteristische Kopfhaube ist hier schlecht zu erkennen.

Ich habe nun andere Aufnahmen aus der Serie angeschaut und neige nun zum Vorschlag von Karin. Denn dort ist die Kopfhaube besser zu sehen (PiP).

It's a great capture, Erhard. It looks like a lapwing, but doesn't have the usual colouring and crest that I'd see in the European species. I think it could well be an Andean Lapwing which would be appropriate for your location. A lovely looking bird and one I'd love to see in person!

Thank you very much! I have looked it up and the pics I have found are very much like this one, and so is the reported size. Only thing that puzzles me: This picture has been taken about 1700 km south from the southernmost tip of its range - and also not high up in the mountains (beyond 1500 m as stated, but just some 150 m).
Still, the similarities are convincing and also the fact that this bird was to be found in a meadow near a river leads me to the conclusion that you are right.
