In Peru, Niño Manuelito is the beloved, Andean-featured Baby Jesus figure central to Christmas nativity scenes (nacimientos). "Manuelito" comes from "Emmanuel" ("God with us"), but this unique child has dark hair, Andean features, sometimes a thorn in his foot, and is dressed in traditional textiles, representing a fusion of Catholic faith and indigenous culture as a protector and symbol of blessing
