After sliding down the metal rod to check out the mantis, the young not-yet-black widow scampered up to the top where the two of them had a staring contest for several minutes before the spiderling zoomed away. The mantis checked out the pots for a bit, and eventually I gave him a ride to a nearby desert willow where he quickly disappeared.
